In their penultimate match of the MASC regular season, the Wolverines made the short drive to Ypsilanti, MI to take on the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. A win on this night would guarantee a berth in the MASC Regional tournament next week.
As Michigan has done for the past 2 weeks, the team came out flying! From the very beginning, the Wolverines dominated every category and it paid off for them in the 23rd minute when freshman striker, Lawrence Mullen, scored his fourth goal of the season and put Michigan up 1-0. Merely 4 minutes later, Lawrence was back at it again, this time assisting junior striker, Austin Harms, as he extended the lead to 2 goals. Just before the first half ended, sophomore midfielder, Ethan Cartwright, tapped in Michigan's third goal of the night.
The second half was much more modest. While still controlling the match, the Wolverines only found the back of the Eagles' goal once more when, in the 50th minute, David Farber slotted the ball past the EMU goalkeeper on, yet again, another ball played through to him by Lawrence Mullen.
With the 4-0 win, Michigan improves to 7-0-2 in the Central Division and will battle in-state rivals, Michigan State on Friday, October 16 at 9:00 p.m. for the Central Division title.
Additionally, the win allows Michigan to punch their tickets to the Midwest Alliance Soccer Conference (MASC) Tournament in Westfield, IN on October 24-25.
